I do agree with Dark on ease of use when creating 3D objects so far Cinema 4D is the way to go. For texturing I prefer Photoshop CS2, For posing I prefer Poser 6, Landscapes I prefer Carrara, or Truespace, and for rendering I prefer Cinema 4D.

yeah true, cinema 4d just has the easement that every 3d app should have no matter how complex, its layout is easy, and you can actually remember where things are after first use unlike most apps, its like playing a gamecube racing game compared to a wii racing game, in wii you steer with the controller, which gives easement as when most people play racing games they turn the controller etc, as on gamecube you have to use the analog stick, which is perhaps less work, but its not what everyone wants, people want easement and simplicity, and the way they already know how to do it
so compare max with c4d, in max, i have used it many times, yet i still cannot remember how to rotate or move the camera, its a bit annoying, but in c4d its much easier, there are buttong in the view port if you dont remember the shortcuts
i dont care about the layout of any app the same way i dont care about the layout of a game controller, yet i will only use that game or play the game, if its not so hard to learn and so hard to controll camera/player etc
now im mixing apps with games so i think im gonna go play nintendogs.

For me it is Cinema 4D. I love the interface, the workflow and especially the modules!
The material editor is great. I used 3DS Max before...
