Over at cgtalk there has been some discussion on making particles appear from a dissolving mesh, i tried pfragment but the particles killed my PC at even lowish levels then i tried MW which handles thousands of particles with ease.

OK here is the rather large vid sorry it's about 8 MB that's cause of all the particles i think

MWdissolve 8 mb DivX

Ok a quick run down on how to get it all to work

The text is a spline put ito a extrude and made editable then connect everything up

The texture is a straight color with a verticle gradient in the alpha channel, this is keyframed to pass down the text thus making it dissolve

The texture is mapped as flat and i removed the UVW tag the made another from the Object manager- texture generate uvw , this was the only way i could get the MW to work correctly

Add a MW node to xpresso and put the text as the emiting object and the birth type as texture, copy the gradient used for the material into the tex in MW and then make the birth gradient all black

This will cause the particles to be emitted flowing down the text mesh as it dissapears, to get the emission to be only at the edge of the text ( as opposed to emitting from where the txt has dissapeared) we need to add another knot into the gradient to follow behind thus cutting off the emmision..don't worry just check out the file i will give you

Particle emmision can be set to count ( try 30000) or for a better effect as in the render try shot at 1000

Once you get the particles as you want them then you could add all sorts of goodies, gravity wind turbulence, pfollow change groups etc

MW is very neat though very confusing !!!
