I thought I'd get the ball rolling with a link to this tutorial for making people turn into particles. Something I hear people asking for a lot.
I'd reccomend sniffing around Creative Cow for other tutorials on this app too.

I use PI (Particle Illusion) for quick FX like explosions, fire, smoke, teleports, computer screens, weather etc when I don't have the time to figure out the science of doing this in 3D.

3D is always more impressive looking than PI fx, which are basic 2d which means limitations, yet when used with after effects this can become a powerful tool.

What I like about PI is that it is super fast to render. Giving you a bit more breathing space when you need to make a deadline.
On the surface the effects can look cheap and corny, yet with the right compositing trickery you can blend these into a scene to good effect.

I'm suprised that I'm the first to make a comment here.
My knowledge of this app is pretty basic but I'm happy to help out anyone who wants to know how to combine this with after effects.
