Toggle this category Why The Tutorials Are No Longer Free

Tutorials Can Only Be Downloaded By Those Who Have Donated To The Site

For many years all my video tutorials and scene files have been free, a few members have kindly contributed via the donate button but sadly most downloaders have given nothing back to the site. I cannot justify keeping the site going unless it pays for itself. For example on 10 Feb 2012 i had 32GB of bandwidth used- just for that day !!! As a single parent and now an out of work carer ( the person who i was caring for has died) I have to look to the future and it seems that my love of CGI and SFX is my way forward. So I am now only allowing downloads to those who donate to the site.

i plan on making loads more tutorials as well as some indepth complete packages such as Thinking Particles, Pyrocluster, Dynamics and a full on Cinema 4D series that will be a level above the standard getting started videos that you can buy. I need to generate some funds for software and hardware to do the training justice.

I have not yet thought about pricing for the larger video series, or how they will be distributed- online or CD or both. But I plan to give a generous discount to all members of the contributors group i.e. those who have made a donation via the many donation buttons on the site.

I always wanted my tutorials to be free but I also wanted more member involvement, seems all i get these days whan i post a WIP is "Cool !! - Tut Please"- Well now it's my turn "Cool - donation please"

Now I cannot monitor the site 24x7 and untill I can set up an automated subscription system there may be a delay between your donation and myself upgrading your account, more often not I have to work out which memeber donated as most donors use different e-mail adresses on paypal and the forum, so send me a PM with the donation details as soon as you can if you think there is a problem.

Cinema 4D Tutorials

If You Want to Download Tutorial or Scene Files Please Read This.
Members are Now Restricted To 1 Downloads Per Day. Contributers Are Unrestricted

For many years all the tutorials, scene files, and help has been free on this site. I have spent hundreds of pounds on site fees and forum software and now I am asking for some generosity from our members. If you could find the odd pound, dollar, yen..whatever and donate it via the "many" donate butons i have set up I can use that money to make more tutorials.

I need to cover the web site costs ( hosting, site software updates etc).

I just cannot justify family funds to pay for these things but with your help I can cover the cost of the web hosting and site software and maybe buy a beer or two.

So please if you can donate some money to the site i would appreciate it.

Thanks

Paul

Toggle this category Adding More Offsite Special Effects Tutorials

Posted By:  SFX @ 10 June 2008 - 03:58 PM
PLEASE NOTE ALL INITIAL POSTS ARE SUBJECT TO APPROVAL AND WILL NOT SHOW UNTIL APPROVED

I think the forum is getting far too cinema 4d orientated. The original plan was to have a broad special effects tutorial site including tutorials from all the major apps such as 3DS Max, Maya, Lightwave, XSI Houdini etc etc

Since both Cinema 4D and 3DS MAX both have access to thinking particles and pyrocluster I was hoping that the 2 camps could bury their differences and share some knowledge..but ..well maybe pyrocluster and thinking particles are not really that popular in MAX

Well i have decided to start adding some links to offsite tutorials

More and more it seems that tutorials for the major apps can be applied to all the other apps, it may take some reverse enginering and a little trickery but that is half the fun

So I would advise users of any 3D application to broaden their outlook when it comes to tutorials, there is a lot to be gained in conducting cross border raids !!

Now I am probably asking a lot here but do you think it would be possible that a few members could actually bother to give something back to the community ? I mean search out and post links to tutorials ? Or better still write your own ? And try and spread the word to other 3D artists, I am sure that if we exchange techniques we could all learn a lot from each other.

If you do add links to tutorials they will not show up untill i have approved them ( in fact all new post are moderated now), forever fighting spam here

I welcome all tutorial subjects ( I would prefer special effects) and of course try to add them to their relevant app section.

If people are not really going to be bothered to contribute to build the site then I may as well make it a closed site for contributing members only and save on the bandwidth..which is not free !!!
