You know the effect, a sort of scanning laser that builds up a mesh and volumetric lights seem the way to go

here is a rough example

Now the problem is how to get the light to folow the contours of the mesh, the secret is to use an inverse vol effect, that way the light comes off the mesh as opposed to the mesh blocking it

For the first pass transparency I used the wire frame shader inside a fusion shader mixed with a black base color, i used an animated gradient in the mask to move the effect up the model

Now the second color pass is a texture and since this was uvw mapped ( i used cylindrical for the wire frame) i could not just add this as a fusion setup in the color chanel, so what i did was add another material set to uvw with the color texture and in the origianl tranparency texture ( set to cylindrical) i added an animated gradient in the alpha chanel to allow the color to show through

Not that amazing but i could be a starting point for something

Wow that`s a very nice effect and it can be useful, how about an in-depth tutorial :) ?
